PGMTT – Please Give Mine To Them
Monroe Christian School Eighth Grade Vision
This year our eighth grade class at Monroe Christian school in Monroe, Washington decided we wanted to do something meaningful in our world. We are created a campaign to promote generosity among young people. While reading the book Do Hard Things by Alex and Brett Harris, we discovered two interesting lessons: the current culture is built on the premise that individuals should look out for their own personal happiness, yet we know God calls us to bear one another’s burdens and look out for the needs of others.
We also learned that some hard things are too big to do alone. If we are going to alleviate suffering in the world, we need to be culture makers; we want to make it popular to do what God values – taking the needy. In Matthew Six Jesus tells his disciples to do the following “acts of righteousness:” give to the needy, pray, and fast. Notice that He puts giving to the needy first. Therefore, In order to create a culture of generosity instead of entitlement in this generation, we are launching a giving campaign that we call PGMTT, Please Give Mine To Them.
PGMTT is a life practice of satisfaction and compassion. PGMTTers say, “I have enough; I’d like to share my surplus.” It can be as simple as placing an empty coffee cup in a car cup holder. When an adult pulls up to the drive-through and says, “What do you want?” the child can say, “Please give mine to them.” Or, when it’s time to buy new shoes, and mom is willing to pay $70 for an expensive pair, the child can say, “I’ll go to Goodwill or Value Shoes; please give the balance to them.” Perhaps this mindset might even translate into the future when these children grow up and are ready to buy a car.
So who is the “them?” That’s the beauty of PGMTT. We are not selling a cause; we are creating a culture! Young people all over the world can make their own choice about who the money will help. Jesus gives us a whole list of needy people in Matthew 25: the hungry, thirsty, lonely, naked, sick, imprisoned, and homeless. As Deuteronomy 15:11 commands, “There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore, I command you to be openhanded.”
We hope you will become part of the PGMTT culture. All you need is an empty cup to put in a cup holder in your family car. You can go to our PGMTT website to download the labels or simply write “PGMTT” on your cup with a marker. For more inspiration and information check out our website and YouTube channel. There you can listen to testimonies from people who are living out the PGMTT philosophy of generosity. Upload your own PGMTT testimony! You can also find suggestions of places to contribute your PGMTT money. We show you how to donate to a local need, and we provide links to accredited charities so that the maximum amount of your PGMTT dollars actually go to alleviating suffering in our world.
So, are you ready to join us? Get an empty cup, fill it up with your surplus, and pass it on.
